Taste of Home’s Dutch Apple Pie

Tonight, I made this mouth-watering dessert because I had a few green, Golden Delicious apples sitting in my fruit bowl longing for use. This recipe looked straightforward and without too many ingredients so I went for it. Plus it got some very good reviews and the photo looked amazing! Must have pie!

After dicing the apples, I made an adjustment to the recipe per some previous reviewers’ tips and added at least 2 tablespoons of cinnamon (although I was just shaking it on top and it may have been a little more than that because I love cinnamon!) and one small teaspoon of nutmeg. Other than that I followed the recipe exactly.

The filling on the stovetop came out looking almost like a thin gelatin, which I didn’t know would happen but once I poured in the apples and vanilla and added the mixture to the pie crust, it looked just like a Sara Lee frozen pie and I was perfectly delighted. It’s been in the oven for about 20 minutes now and I can barely hold my excitement for it to come out, cool down, and let me eat its first slice. With 15 minutes left to cook, I sprinkled some halved pecans sporadically on top of the pie and put it back in the oven.

I couldn’t even wait for the pie to really cool down before taking a slice. It was still quite warm and gooey but oh so delicious. The sweetness of the cinnamon and sugar with the slightly crisp apples was heavenly. What a great recipe and I will return to it again and again over the years. Here’s my pie: #tasteofhome
