Everyday Cooking Adventures’ Teriyaki Orange Sesame Grilled Salmon

Sometimes the best recipes are the simplest. With just 4 ingredients, this is quite simple to follow, which I fully appreciate. I find that anything cooked in a foil packet on the grill comes out a winner as well so I knew experimenting a little would still be reliable. The result was a tangy, sweet and perfectly cooked heart-healthy main-dish. See some of my other foil-packet grill recipes here: (Grilled Fish with Green Onions and Italian Fish and Vegetable Packets).

If you haven’t heard of Gomasio before, well you’re not unique. This fall, my mom and I took a Healthy Cooking Class in my hometown, free of charge put on by the local library. We figured, hey, a cooking class that’s free should not be missed. There is always a new method or tip to learn. What we didn’t expect was that we would learn about a multitude of new ingredients we had never even heard of before such as Gomasio (Japanese sesame seeds and salt, sometimes mixed with seaweed flakes). I bought some recently and decided to try them out and they were great! Just the right amount of extra seasoning. Trying new things in the kitchen is something I always enjoy and trying entirely new spices, seasonings or ingredients is even better!

Orange Sesame Grilled Salmon

Recipe By: Everyday Cooking Adventures, 2014

Serves: 2

Total Time: 15 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. wild salmon fillet, skin on, de-boned
  • 2 oranges
  • 2 Tbsp. teriyaki sauce
  • Gomasio (Japanese sesame salt) or Sesame seeds and dash of salt

1. Preheat the grill. Place salmon skin side down on a large piece of non-stick or PAM-sprayed aluminum foil. Squeeze one orange over the top and drizzle evenly with the teriyaki sauce. Then sprinkle generously with the Gomasio or sesame seeds and a dash of salt. Add a sprinkling of fresh ground black pepper.

2. Cut the second orange into round slices and layer over the top of the fish. Completely cover with the aluminum foil, fold and seal like a packet, then grill on medium heat about 10 minutes.
